AVOIDANT WOMEN want someone LIKE THIS

A therapist's list of what avoidant women want in a partner, framed as distinct from avoidant men because (in the speaker's view) gender roles mean they often expect you to make the first move even though pursuit also triggers them.

Key points

  • Avoidant women sit in a "paradox": being submissive/expecting the man to initiate, while initiation is itself a trigger. So the male-avoidant fix of "give time and space and he comes around" does not reliably work; sometimes you have to make the first move because she is waiting on you.
  • Wants someone not afraid of rejection: she knows she will reject you often and wants to see you are resilient and do not take it personally. Not a doormat, just not easily shaken off.
  • Wants to be called out without being criticized. Example: an ex who keeps messaging her. State your feelings plainly and give actionable steps (ask her to stop talking to him or block him). The speaker says avoidant women respond better to clear actionable requests than to an emotional "crash out."
  • Wants to be respected for who she is, not what she can give (money, looks, body). Seeing both her flaws and effort lets her feel she is a "multivariable person" who can open up rather than be objectified and later abandoned.
  • Wants someone who accepts she is not perfect and will make mistakes, who likes her as she is now while also wanting her to heal.
  • Wants you to state what you want without pressuring her (distinct from a boundary). Example: say "I'd like Valentine's Day plans, but I know this is tricky for you because of your commitment issues" rather than demanding it. Using a softer label like "commitment issues" instead of "avoidant attachment" lands better. Many avoidant women were told what to do growing up, so being told what to do is a trigger.
  • Wants someone who will not be severely triggered when she deactivates: minor triggers are normal, but she needs you to self-regulate and still see/forgive her.
