Without actual accountability of the space taken...the cycle will just repeat...over and over

When an avoidant reappears after weeks, months, or a year acting as though nothing happened, it is a sign they remain unhealed and the cycle will likely repeat unless there is real accountability.

Key points

  • Avoidants do not register that their absence had an emotional impact on you and lack the capacity to take responsibility for it unprompted.
  • A reach-out with no mention of the space, no "I'm sorry," and no acknowledgment that something happened is a breadcrumb, not a genuine bid for connection.
  • A genuine bid looks like accountability first -- recognizing that time passed and something occurred -- even if a full apology comes later depending on where they are in their healing.
  • Without that accountability the cycle will simply repeat; assert your boundaries or leave it.
