DOPAMINE - What It Is, and How To Beat It¶

You cannot directly control the brain circuit that generates your wants, so instead of fighting cravings with willpower, weaken that circuit through five other brain systems - and, counterintuitively, keep your dopamine high rather than detoxing it away.

Opioid system: add pain
- The mu/kappa opioid receptors tightly link pain and pleasure. A hard-won game (comeback) gives a bigger dopamine rush than a stomp; the burn of the seventh/eighth rep (Arnold's "pump") is what positively reinforces a workout. Half-assing avoids pain and weakens reinforcement.
