A genuine bid for reconnection carries clarity, accountability, and a real plan; vague check-ins ("hey stranger," taco-place nostalgia, story likes) are breadcrumbs -- bait with no risk or intention.
Two valid responses: leave them on read to break the pattern and build curiosity, or send a boundary text ("I'm not interested in casual check-ins; if you want to reconnect, be clear and intentional").
If the boundary text pushes them away, that itself is clarity.
