Avoidants Come Quietly Back When You Do THIS (Reverse Psychology)¶

The speaker claims that with an emotionally avoidant partner, chasing only confirms their expectations, and that seven "reverse psychology" shifts (doing the opposite of what feels natural) flip the dynamic so the avoidant comes back on their own.
Key points¶
- Core premise: avoidants count on you to chase and stay invested; giving more validates their belief that closeness equals pressure. The leverage is in withdrawing the expected reaction.
- These are framed as genuine behavior shifts, not tricks; the speaker says they only work when authentic. Avoidants supposedly have a "sixth sense" for faked detachment (e.g. acting indifferent while secretly checking their socials).
The seven moves
- Celebrate their distance instead of protesting it. Instead of long "what went wrong" texts, genuinely tell them to take all the time they need. They braced for resistance; freely given space creates cognitive dissonance and makes their absence feel empty rather than relieving.
- Thank them for showing you who they are. When they cancel or go cold, respond with sincere gratitude (it freed you up, it reminded you to keep options open). Upset proves you care; gratitude implies you are making decisions based on their behavior, which unsettles them.
- Get genuinely excited about your life without them. Start projects, reconnect with friends, respond hours later because you are actually busy. Not staged jealousy; the point is making their absence irrelevant so you become the one with limited availability.
- Agree with their worst assumptions about relationships. When they say relationships are too much work or always end, agree "with enlightenment." The claim: avoidants want you to hold the hope while they hold the fear, so your agreement makes them feel the need to convince you otherwise.
- Stop being available for unclear communication. Treat vague texts, breadcrumbs, and ambiguous plans as no communication; do not decode or ask for clarification. This removes the control they get from ambiguity and forces them to be clear or be ignored.
- Mirror their emotional temperature without explanation. Match cold with cold and warm with warm, never explaining why. They experience their own behavior reflected back, can't call you needy, and start craving the warmth you used to give freely.
- Become impossible to guilt or manipulate. When they cite trust issues or past wounds, offer brief sympathy ("that sounds really hard," "I hope you find healing") and change the subject rather than playing therapist or savior. Removing the guilt supply forces them to show up authentically.
- Claimed result when the moves are authentic: the avoidant loses their "emotional supply," feels merely optional, and starts new behavior (double texting, planning ahead, volunteering feelings).
