Not everyone who comes back having "done the work" deserves a second chance -- they only started healing because losing you was the consequence, and you do not owe them the reward.
Key points¶
- They may have genuinely changed -- therapy, books, real effort -- but the catalyst was losing you, which makes you the damage they needed, not the beneficiary.
- Some betrayals are not misunderstandings; they are revelations of who that person is when no one is watching or when they assume you will stay anyway.
- The "secret self" they tried to hide -- the one who lied, cheated, ghosted, or manipulated -- is more revealing than the reformed version performing for forgiveness.
- Forgiveness does not require reunion; growth does not require re-entry; letting them learn from the loss, not from your grace, is a complete option.
