THIS is how AVOIDANTS TEXT when they CARE

The speaker, a therapist, claims avoidants modify their texting once they start to care, and lists the signals to watch for.

Key points

Two baseline texting styles (predate you, not about you)

  • Type one (more often dismissive avoidant): prompt, timely, on-schedule replies, but business-like, unemotional, not romantic.
  • Type two: gaps of two or three days then disappearing, but warmer and more romantic when present; more hot-and-cold and more triggered during conflict. Speaker says she sees this type less in her own practice.

Seven signs an avoidant cares, by text

  • They initiate (at least sometimes); notable because avoidants rarely initiate, and female avoidants initiate the least of all.
  • They follow through on plans they stated by text (e.g. picking you up for the dinner they promised).
  • They correct your assumptions or miscommunications instead of going cold, adding clarity and reassurance (e.g. explaining that "all right" really meant yes).
  • They reply more promptly as they get closer, because they feel safer and want you to feel secure.
  • They circle back to soften a blunt or cold message once they notice you went quiet or short.
  • They start using emojis or smiley faces (esp. male avoidants, who usually avoid them), particularly when sharing good news.
  • They send pictures or videos of what they are doing (pets, hobbies, travel) to connect and share their life.
