You Can Never Be Friends With A Woman | CRP¶

The speaker argues that a straight man and a straight woman can never truly be friends, because sexual attraction is always present on at least one side, and the resulting imbalance corrodes whoever wants more.
Key points¶
- He once believed men and women could be friends but now rejects it: two straight men can be friends and two straight women can be friends, but a straight man and woman cannot, because one (or both) will eventually be sexually attracted.
- Usually only one side is attracted. When the man wants the woman who sees him only as a friend, you get the "beta orbiter" / "white knight" pining after a woman who never reciprocates.
- Being seen as non-sexual by a woman is described as emasculating and soul-corroding: it diminishes the man in her eyes, in other women's eyes, and in his own, making him less successful with women generally.
Both sides do it
- He claims he spent years as the friend two women pined after (one for ~15 years, 1993-2008; one for ~11 years, 2001-2012 before a blow-up), saying these one-sided friendships were corrosive for the women too.
- He says women sometimes encourage male "friends" to prop up their own ego when they feel insecure, knowing the men want more, and that men do the same: sleeping around with lower-rated women to bolster their ego out of insecurity about attracting the women they actually want.
The real cause: too few social options
- He claims prolonged exposure to any woman ends in one of two ways, love or hatred, and that mutual friends-to-lovers stories are "one in a million."
- The trap hits men hardest because women have more social options today; a man with a small social circle (work, school) fixates on the one attractive woman he sees and mistakes scarcity for love.
- Fix: deliberately build many social groups, clubs, hobbies. He prescribes counting how many people you interact with per week, saying under 30 is trouble and 50-plus is optimal. Short term, cut off or minimize any one-sided "friendship" with a woman.
Reception¶
- Strongly positive and agreement-heavy; many call the content "gold" and true, several learned it "the hard way."
- A wave of memorial comments ("RIP Coach," "Rest in peace dear Gonzalo") reflect the archive's posthumous context.
- The "50 people a week" advice drew pushback from introverts and self-described "sigma" types who find heavy socializing draining.
- Some partial dissent: a few argue friendship is possible with zero attraction or after "banging it out" first, and one long comment describes maintaining cross-sex friendships by deliberately not entertaining the sexual energy.
- A few related their own experiences of obsessive one-sided attachments and warned about "work husband/wife" situations.
