AVOIDANT TEXTING: This is What They REALLY MEAN! ???

Channel: Thais Gibson - Personal Development School

Decodes why dismissive avoidants give vague, indirect, non-committal text replies and how to respond without walking on eggshells.

Key points

  • The classic pattern: you ask something direct ("are we still on for the weekend?") and get a non-answer ("I'm just walking my dog," "having car trouble") that never actually addresses the plan.
  • Why it happens: avoidants want connection but fear what comes with it. They prefer to follow through only when they feel 100 percent, avoid conflict, and dodge anything that could get them shamed or criticized, leaving them pulled in two directions and giving gray-area answers.
  • The speaker says avoidant clients consistently report they were "really interested" but unsure how they would feel, did not want to show up halfway, and did not want to rock the boat -- so it is usually not disinterest or malice.
  • Do not take it personally. Childhood or past wounds make it easy to read "I'm not good enough" into the ambiguity; do not let someone else's attachment wounds define your self-worth.
  • What to do: value your time and do not enable the pattern. Ask for clarity directly but without pressure ("Just to be clear, do you want to find another time, or not? I want to know so I can make weekend plans -- no pressure").
  • If a low-pressure clarifying question makes someone walk away, they were not ready for the relationship anyway, and it is better to learn that early.
