In phase two of the fearful avoidant breakup cycle, they suppress grief through constant busyness and distraction rather than actually processing the loss.
Key points¶
- After the initial deactivation and shutdown (phase one), the fearful avoidant enters avoidance and distraction mode.
- They post as if unbothered, date, travel, and stay busy - all to outrun the silence that would force them to feel the grief.
- This is suppression, not healing: the grief is simply waiting for a moment when they trust themselves to feel it safely.
- Numbing with distraction is an attempt to feel powerful again, not evidence that the relationship did not matter.
