It feels like no time at all to the avoidant¶

Two weeks of no contact feels endless to the anxious partner who is sitting with emotions, but barely registers for the avoidant who is burying them.
Key points¶
- Avoidants cope during no contact by burying themselves in work, scrolling, hobbies, friends, or someone new -- not by processing.
- To an avoidant, avoiding feels safer than facing emotions, which feel like drowning; walls go up instead.
- This avoidance works short-term but keeps them stuck long-term -- and by the time it catches up to them, the other person has usually moved on.
- Your healing cannot depend on their avoidance; the shift needed is from seeking closure to accepting who they are and what they must do to survive right now.
