THIS means AVOIDANT is READY to FIGHT for the RELATIONSHIP (finally)¶

The speaker, a therapist, lists seven signs she claims show an avoidant partner is willing to fight for the relationship rather than withdraw.
Key points¶
- When you raise something that needs changing, they reflect and repeat it back ("you're right, you have been waiting 3 years") instead of denying, defending, or shutting down. Repeating it back subconsciously lets them absorb the criticism.
- When you express emotion, they voice how they feel underneath their defenses, often in simple, almost childlike words ("I hate this, I wish I wasn't like this"). The speaker frames this raw, unpolished expression as a good sign they are opening up.
- They make some changes immediately, within roughly the next 10 minutes: calming down, checking on you, offering comfort or food, being more receptive over text.
- They also make bigger changes gradually over time that do not revert (texting more, more affection, less moodiness, sharing weekend plans to ease an anxious-preoccupied partner's worry). You should see both immediate and gradual change.
- If they left or you broke up, they return (the speaker says often within about two weeks) and clarify negative things you assumed (e.g. "I'm single, I have nobody but you") to restart on better footing. She notes this is more common in avoidants earlier in their healing journey.
- They defend themselves when needed rather than calling you paranoid or too much, refusing to let you believe untrue things about them.
- They admit their mistakes ("you're right, I do that, I hate it, bear with me and I'll work on it").
