Most avoidants come back only once, and if your silence reads to them as rejection they will disappear for good rather than knock on a door they think is locked twice.
Key points¶
- Some avoidants cycle repeatedly -- leaving when things get too close, returning when it feels safe -- but for most it is a single comeback.
- They return not because they have healed or changed but because the space scared them into thinking you were really gone.
- They read your stillness as coldness and your boundaries as betrayal; instead of asking if you are still there, they conclude you have moved on and vanish again.
- Avoidants do not clarify, they conclude -- once they convince themselves you are gone, they will disappear for good even if they still check your page every night.
